A man has died following a three-vehicle collision on the M20 in Kent on Tuesday morning. Emergency services were called to the London-bound carriageway just before 08:30 GMT between junction nine (Ashford) and junction eight (Maidstone), Kent Police said.
The driver of a car, a man in his 30s, was confirmed dead at the scene. The driver of a white Mercedes lorry sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a London hospital.
National Highways warned that the London-bound carriageway is likely to remain closed “into and past this evening’s peak traffic period.” The coastbound carriageway was temporarily closed to allow the air ambulance to land but has since reopened.
Kent Police’s collision investigation team is working at the scene. Authorities have asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage to come forward.
Travel service Inrix reported heavy traffic on diversion routes through Lenham and Harrietsham. Drivers travelling from the Port of Dover to London were advised to use the M2 and A2 as an alternative route.
