The MGS5 EV has been named the most reliable small family electric SUV in a nation-wide 2026 UK vehicle reliability survey, leading a strong set of results for MG’s electric models and the wider brand.
The MG5 electric estate also secured third place among all electric cars in the survey. Together, the results give customers further confidence in choosing an electric MG, with recognition based on the experiences of owners.
MG was also named the year’s most-improved manufacturer, placing ninth out of 30 brands in 2026. Its score of 92.0% secured the brand’s first top-ten finish, having risen from 88.9% the previous year..
For drivers considering an electric family car, the MGS5 EV’s class-leading result offers reassurance about everyday ownership. The survey looks beyond faults alone, taking account of repair costs and time off the road to reflect the impact a problem can have on an owner’s life.
The MGS5 EV combines that reassurance with the range and practicality families need every day. The SE Long Range offers up to 298 miles on a charge (WLTP combined), while its 64kWh battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 28 minutes using a suitable 150kW DC rapid charger, depending on vehicle and charging conditions. A seven-year/80,000-mile manufacturer warranty adds further peace of mind.
Built on MG’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, the MGS5 EV uses an ultra-thin battery to maximise cabin space. Its 453-litre boot, including underfloor storage, expands to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded, providing flexibility for shopping, luggage and family trips. Inside, soft-touch materials, physical controls for key functions and a 12.8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make everyday journeys comfortable and straightforward.
Adding to its family appeal, the MGS5 EV presents great value with all models currently available with 0% finance and no minimum deposit required for orders and registrations placed until 31 December 2026.
William Wang, Managing Director of MG Motor UK and Europe, said: “Seeing the MGS5 EV lead its class and the MG5 finish third among electric cars is particularly rewarding because these results reflect the experiences of our customers. People want a car they can depend on, whether they are commuting, taking the family away or simply getting on with their day.
“Entering the top ten as the most-improved brand is another important step for MG. We have invested in the people, parts and technical support behind our cars, and we will keep building on that work so customers can choose an MG with confidence and enjoy owning it.”
The results follow sustained investment in MG’s Aftersales operation. A new parts warehouse in Daventry supports overnight deliveries to participating dealers, while first-time parts fulfilment has reached approximately 96% in 2026 to date. Around £500,000 invested in Cecil Kimber College MG Academy at Longbridge has doubled the training centre’s size and increased delegate capacity four-fold.
Additional technical expertise, including specialist field engineers known as “flying doctors”, helps dealers diagnose and resolve complex faults. An expanded replacement-vehicle programme also supports eligible customers during repairs following a qualifying breakdown. Together, these changes are designed to reduce disruption and give owners dependable support when they need it.
