Skyports Drone Services has officially launched its new operations hub at Westcott Venture Park in Buckinghamshire, marking a significant expansion for the company’s drone delivery, surveillance, and inspection operations.
The facility spans 5,145 square feet and consolidates Skyports’ international drone activities, including maintenance, storage, and pilot training. The move aims to support the company’s continued growth and operational scale across the UK and Europe.
From this central hub, one of seven worldwide, drone pilots can manage missions remotely, enhancing efficiency and control. Each of the four pilot stations is equipped with dual ground control systems connected via separate internet channels using Starlink and LTE technology. This setup ensures uninterrupted operations even if one connection fails.
The new premises also feature increased hangar and workshop space, with multiple workbenches and ample storage for tools and aircraft components. The expanded facility is designed to support both current needs and future growth as Skyports continues to scale its operations.
Skyports has received approval for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights within “atypical airspace” at Westcott Venture Park. This authorisation allows pilots to train for practical applications, including maritime port monitoring and offshore delivery missions.
Alex Brown, chief executive of Skyports, emphasised the importance of the new facility: “With the scope and capabilities of our drone services ever expanding, it’s paramount that we have the best facilities possible so we can deliver the highest quality product to our customers. Our new global drone operations HQ marks the start of an exciting new chapter, providing our top talent with best-in-class facilities and technology, with ample space for us to grow as our operations continue to scale.”
The establishment of the Westcott hub was supported by a substantial development programme funded with £5.9m from the UK Space Agency. The funding followed a collaborative bid led by URA Thrusters and involving PATRIZIA, Buckinghamshire Council, and Skyports.
