Bath Spa University Launches Student-led Creative Consultancy Connecting Talent with Paid Work

Bath Spa University has launched a new creative consultancy designed to tackle one of the biggest gaps facing graduates: the leap from education into professional freelance work.

Called Juno House, the consultancy is staffed entirely by Bath Spa students and recent graduates, who are being paid to deliver real-world projects for local businesses, charities and university departments. The model gives clients access to new creative thinking, while offering emerging talent practical experience that goes far beyond the lecture hall.

Already, 41 students from across the University have signed up to Juno House, bringing together skills from a wide range of academic disciplines. Early briefs have spanned branding and design, research projects, sustainability initiatives, community work, strategy and storytelling – reflecting a deliberately broad view of what ‘creative’ work looks like today.

Rather than simulated assignments, Juno House operates as a professional consultancy. Each brief is supported by Bath Spa’s Enterprise & Entrepreneurship Team, which manages contracts, payroll and project structures. Once scope and budgets are agreed, tailored teams are assembled and projects move quickly into delivery.

Students are not left to navigate client work alone. Each team is supported by academic or industry mentors, ensuring professional standards are met while giving students the confidence to take ownership of their ideas. Clients benefit from competitive rates and a collaborative approach that blends innovation with oversight.

Tiffany Frye, Enterprise & Entrepreneurship Manager at Bath Spa University, said the consultancy was built to reflect the changing nature of creative careers.

“We are very excited to work in a wide range of areas from the traditional creative disciplines such as graphic design, photography, copywriting, web design and animation through to areas such as research, impact measurement, sustainability audits, and business strategy.”

She added that Juno House is as much about confidence as it is about skills.

“We exist to give students and graduates room to grow their skills and confidence, while helping businesses tap into fresh thinking for today’s challenges. Our model is simple. Clients hand us a brief; we assemble a team to tackle it. Every project is a space for new ideas to take shape and new voices to lead.”

Juno House is open to all Bath Spa students, as well as graduates up to three years after finishing their studies. Members gain access to workshops on professionalism, project management and client relationships, alongside one-to-one coaching, onboarding resources and networking events designed to mirror industry practice.

In a fitting reflection of its ethos, Juno House was created entirely in-house by Bath Spa talent. Students led the market research, branding, logo design, website copy and social media strategy – turning the consultancy itself into its first live project.

The team is now inviting students, mentors and organisations to get involved, whether by commissioning work, supporting talent or helping students build their portfolios through paid opportunities.
