The numerically named community wellbeing charity Number 22 has officially opened enrolment for its January 2026 Counsellor Training Courses, giving people across Maidenhead, Berkshire, and beyond the opportunity to start or advance their careers in counselling and mental health.
The Ofqual-regulated courses, offered both online and in-person in Maidenhead, provide a flexible and supportive way to build professional counselling skills. Whether participants are seeking a complete career change, looking to enhance their work in education, health or social care, or simply exploring an interest in psychology and human behaviour, Number 22’s training pathway offers a nationally recognised route into this rewarding field.
Delivered by experienced and qualified counselling tutors, the courses begin with the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills, ideal for beginners with no prior experience, and progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies. Both qualifications are accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) and meet national standards. For those aiming to qualify as professional counsellors, the pathway continues with the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, a two-year, part-time qualification approved by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This advanced course equips learners with the knowledge, practical experience, and confidence to work as qualified therapeutic counsellors in private practice or public mental health services.
Emily Warburton, CEO of Number 22 Community Counselling Services, said: “We are passionate about growing the next generation of skilled, compassionate counsellors. Our courses are designed to be accessible, community-based, and genuinely life-changing.
“Many of our students go on to practice professionally, start their own services, or contribute to the public provision of mental health support.”
Number 22 has been a cornerstone of local wellbeing for over a decade, providing free and low-cost counselling to thousands of people across Maidenhead, Windsor, Slough, and surrounding areas. Its training programmes reflect a deep commitment to empowering individuals through education and professional development, helping to strengthen mental health support within the community.
The next intake of courses begins in January 2026, with options to study online or in-person at Number 22’s Maidenhead centre. Applications are open now, but places are limited.
The training pathway includes the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (CSK-L2), Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3), and Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (TC-L4), all accredited by CPCAB. Each qualification provides a clear route for students to develop the skills and confidence needed to support others and make a real difference in the field of mental health.
These courses are suited to adults considering a new career in counselling, professionals in education or healthcare seeking to expand their skills, or anyone looking to build empathy and communication abilities while helping others.
