A new £21m care focused retirement village in Herne Bay has been officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Keji Moses, and Lady Mayoress Carol Reed. The development is located on Canterbury Road and is intended to support older residents with a combination of housing and care provision.
The scheme was delivered by the McGoff Group, a £150m collective of construction related businesses operating across design, build, facilities management and operations. Group divisions involved in the project include McGoff Construction, Dunham Care and Villafont Homes.
The Herne Bay development comprises 50 retirement bungalows alongside a 67 bed care home, Herne Bay Manor. The care home delivers residential, nursing, dementia and respite care services and is operated by Dunham Care.
Herne Bay Manor is led by home manager Trisha King and includes en suite bedrooms, communal lounges and dining areas, and shared spaces designed for residents. Additional facilities include spa assisted bathrooms, a beauty salon, landscaped grounds and an outdoor terrace at first floor level.
Alongside the care home, Villafont has delivered one and two bedroom retirement bungalows. More than 20 per cent of the homes have already been reserved and are preparing to welcome their first residents.
During the opening, the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress were joined by representatives from the McGoff Group. The visit included a tour of both the care home and bungalow development, as well as meetings with residents.
Cllr Moses said: “We are delighted to be here today to celebrate the completion of this beautiful new development that will support and enhance life for older individuals in our Herne Bay community.
“I have been impressed with the design and incredibly high standards of the care home and also the superb quality and lifestyle concept of the bungalows.
“It has been great to view the whole development and meet the talented teams involved.
“I wish each of the new residents all the very best in their new homes. I am confident that they will be very happy here.”
Dave McGoff, chair of the McGoff Group, said: “We are grateful to the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress for joining today and officially opening the development.
“As more residents move into their new homes, we are looking forward to seeing the new community come to life providing a good lifestyle, comfort and care for local individuals wishing to remain in this highly desirable part of Kent.”
