Park Properties Housing Association (PPHA) has announced a significant expansion of its affordable housing portfolio, agreeing to take on 156 new homes at The Poppies development in Aylesford, being built by Barratt Redrow.
The scheme will feature a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats alongside three- and four-bedroom houses, creating homes for up to 648 residents. The properties are being designed with energy efficiency in mind, while the wider development of 840 homes will include a new primary school and medical centre for residents’ convenience.
Construction of the affordable homes is planned over the next three and a half years, with the first units expected to be ready this December. All homes will be offered on an affordable rent basis.
Daniel Watson, head of PPHA Acquisitions, said: “We are committed to getting more affordable rental homes on the market as soon as possible. This urgent need is evident from the latest shocking statistics, which show that there are more than 169,000 children living in temporary accommodation. This first project with Barratt Redrow is a big opportunity to bring high-quality affordable rent homes to completion, so people and families in Kent can have somewhere warm, safe and comfortable to live.”
PPHA currently manages 1,500 units across the UK, with a combined market value of around £500 million, and is part of the HSPG group.
Elsewhere in Kent, Golding Homes Housing Association has secured a similar agreement with housebuilder Vistry to expand its affordable housing offerings at the Rosewood development in Langley, on the outskirts of Maidstone.
Jack Crabtree from Golding Homes said: “Rosewood is one of the most significant development sites in Maidstone, and we’re really pleased to be providing even more affordable housing in an area where we’re already a local, listening and accessible landlord. We’re also excited to strengthen our partnership with Vistry, to deliver more high-quality homes for local people.”
These projects highlight a growing focus on tackling the housing shortage in Kent by delivering modern, energy-efficient homes for families in need. Both PPHA and Golding Homes are investing in long-term partnerships with developers to ensure the quality and availability of affordable housing continues to improve.
