Primary pupils plan playground upgrade thanks to Persimmon Homes

Five-star housebuilder Persimmon Homes has donated £3,000 to a primary school in Wealden.

Pupils at Herstmonceux Church of England Primary School will be using the cash boost to invest in play equipment to keep them entertained at break and lunch times.

Helen Emmett, Head of School, said: “We don’t have a huge outdoor space, but we want to make the most of what we have and to offer the children some more structured play to ensure there is something for everyone.

“We have a trim-trail and football area for the older children, and now we are looking at other equipment we can bring out to encourage more imaginative play. With this generous donation from Persimmon Homes we can invest in craft materials, building blocks and play equipment that will be used by all age groups.”

Persimmon Homes South East has recently started work on the Charles Church at Chapel Green development close to the school, and wants to give back to the community – creating a positive legacy for the village.

Danny Woods, Operations Director for Persimmon Homes South East, said: “We pride ourselves on not just building new homes, but strengthening communities.

“Our development will offer 70 much-needed new homes to the village, and will include 17 homes for affordable rent and eight shared ownership properties to support those in housing need. We will also be investing in the local community through the Section 106 contributions with funding for children’s play areas, and early years’ provision.

“Donations from our Community Champions are an additional way that we can give back and support the existing community here in Herstmonceux.”

Cllr Paul Coleshill, Wealden District Council Member for Herstmonceux & Pevensey Levels, and Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, said: “I would like to thank Persimmon Homes for supporting the school and boosting the opportunities for outside play for the children here.

“It was positive to hear that the news homes being delivered at Chapel Green will be energy efficient and will benefit from features such as air source heat pumps and PV panels.”

Persimmon Homes donated copies of their Cones book for pupils to take home and enjoy, encouraging reading and teaching them about the importance of safety on construction sites.
