Volunteers Help Yateley Disability Charity Prepare for Major Outdoor Works

A Yateley-based charity dedicated to empowering disabled people has refreshed its community spaces ahead of work on two major projects, thanks to the help of a team of volunteers.

Yateley Industries works to provide disabled people with a range of opportunities that allow them to contribute meaningfully to the local community. The charity employs 53 disabled people across a number of projects, including factory work and job coaching. It has 36 disabled residents at its 3.25 acre site, which includes a community hub where disabled and non-disabled people regularly work, eat, learn and participate side by side.

The charity plans to create a new outdoor seating area for its café and a dedicated memorial garden for residents over the coming months. As part of this project it welcomes teams of corporate volunteers, and one of the most recent groups to offer their help came from Taylor Wimpey West London, based nearby in Hook.

Over the summer the Taylor Wimpey team of 90 worked together to clear the spaces for the seating area and memorial garden, along with giving the entire site a thorough tidy and dismantling and reconfiguring the café counter to make room for a new coffee machine. Taylor Wimpey also laid a concrete base for a new café decking area.

Maria Mannan, Marketing, Community and Events Fundraiser for Yateley Industries, said: “Despite the extreme heat, the team worked tirelessly and accomplished a tremendous amount during their volunteering, helping to bring our new outdoor seating area and dedicated memorial garden to life.

“Our charity depends on support from our local community to continue to offer these vital services, so we are hugely grateful for Taylor Wimpey’s help. Support like this makes a huge difference in driving positive progress in the local community, and raises awareness about our wider mission in Yateley.

“This work was made possible through our mutual relationship with Community Matter Partnership (CMP) who match corporate volunteers with charities and manage the process with expert Dexterity.”

Taylor Wimpey West London is creating new communities across Berkshire and Surrey, including Arborfield Heights at Arborfield Green, and Mindenhurst in Deepcut. Managing Director Mark Kennor said: “Supporting vulnerable people and making a positive difference in the communities where we build is one of our aims. We’re honoured to support such an incredible charity, whose work provides a vast range of opportunities for people with disabilities in the Yateley area.

“We know that charities like this depend on the support of the wider community to continue to make a real impact, so I am really proud of our team for working tirelessly during the heatwave to support their mission. It is so important for the team to join together and help to drive positive change.”
