Are you looking for free family fun this October half-term? The Rangers at Northam Burrows have a fantastic, free line-up of events planned! Whether you’re looking to keep the children entertained, explore the great outdoors or simply enjoy some fresh air together, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Key dates for your diary are:
- Tuesday 27th October, 2pm – 4pm: Drop in at the Northam Burrows Visitor Centre to build your own bird or bat box, make paper plant pots, learn about wildlife-friendly gardening projects, and take away seeds to grow over winter as part of a Wildlife Friendly Gardening Event.
- Thursday 29th October, 10.30am – 12pm: Meet the Rangers at the Visitor Centre at 10.30am for a fun and educational guided walk called Fungi Foray and learn to spot fungi on the grasslands of Northam Burrows.
- Thursday 29th October, 2pm – 4pm: Find the Rangers on the beach near Westward Ho! Slipway and enjoy a Rockpool Ramble.
There will also be a Spooky Trail available between Saturday 24th October and Sunday 1st November. Collect a trail map from the visitor centre any day between 10am and 5pm and solve the clues to discover the hidden secret.
The above events are free to attend, with no booking required – simply turn up and join in! Children must be accompanied by an adult and appropriate clothing and footwear is recommended.
Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Lead Member for Culture & Community Engagement said:
“As a mum to two young children myself, I know how keeping them entertained can be a challenge, especially at this time of year! These activities on the Burrows offer a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature and discover the huge variety of wonderful wildlife in our local area… and best of all – they’re free! From building your own bird or bat box, to exploring the rockpools at Westward Ho!, each event is a fun and educational way to learn something new, get outdoors in the fresh air and make the most of the school break.”
The fun this October isn’t just for children! For those aged 16 and over, there are also a range of Conservation Volunteering Events happening throughout the rest of the year as well as Autumn Guided Walks.
