It was a relatively drama-free second night of action at the World Grand Prix in Leicester, with most of the big seeds safely progressing to the last-16.
Josh Rock and Chris Dobey were the two seeds to suffer an early exit, with Rock falling 2-1 to Niels Zonneveld after a hat-trick of ton-plus finishes from the debutant. Dobey, meanwhile, was beaten 2-0 by another Dutchman, Jermaine Wattimena in the night’s opening contest.
Elsewhere, Luke Humphries progressed to the next round thanks to a routine 2-0 victory over an under-par Dave Chisnall and James Wade won a topsy-turvy match against Joe Cullen 2-1 after missing six match darts.
Wade, a two-time winner of the double-in, double-out tournament, is now set to face Stephen Bunting after the Bullet won the evening’s final match against Andrew Gilding.
Tuesday also saw Gary Anderson see off Damon Heta, Ryan Searle overcome William O’Connor and Gian van Veen get the better of fellow Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode.
Wednesday night sees the last-16 get underway with Danny Noppert taking on Ryan Joyce – conqueror of Michael van Gerwen on night one.
Jonny Clayton comes up against Wessel Nijman, Gerwyn Price faces Ross Smith and Luke Woodhouse will look to follow up his statement win over Luke Littler as he faces off against Nathan Aspinall in the night’s finale.
