Wiltshire, 14th April: Intelligent home retrofit company Genous has acquired Cotswold Energy in a landmark deal for the renewable installation industry. Genous, founded in 2022, is the UK’s leading full-service retrofitting firm, working on residential projects nationwide to deliver sustainable heating and energy solutions, including heat pumps, solar PV, batteries, and insulation.
The acquisition comes at a pivotal time for the sector, following recent disruption to government-backed energy efficiency schemes. Genous’ investment will help stabilise delivery across active projects and ensure continued support for clients operating within remaining funded programmes.
Cotswold Energy, founded in 2018, generates over £20m in turnover and employs more than 100 people. It has built an enviable reputation in both the commercial market, where it supports blue-chip corporate and public sector clients in major renewables installations, and the residential space, supporting a mix of Tier 1 contractors and housing associations on funded renewables installations and also working in the able-to-pay space, where Genous has built its own leading position.
The deal strengthens Genous’ position within the residential market (including accessing new, large markets that are priorities for the government’s Warm Homes Plan) and takes it into the Commercial space – the company can now offer solutions across the broadest range of renewable installation market segments throughout the country.
Speaking on the transaction, Simon Bones, Founder and CEO of Genous, said: “I’m delighted with the acquisition of Cotswold Energy, which brings a fantastic team and unmatched technical capabilities in renewables to the Genous tech platform. This deal deepens and broadens our market position as well as dramatically increasing our scale, making us one of the UK’s leading renewables installation companies.
“This is the logical next step forward in the Genous journey, helping us to expand the size of buildings we’re able to serve, both ‘up’ from our able-to-pay residential base into corporate and public sector works, and ‘down’ into selected affordable housing and funded markets where government’s spending priorities remain robust. Our ability to ‘tech-enable’ the market will be accelerated, and our focus on premium service, the best products and approaches, and unmatched and technology-driven advice will continue.”
Genous currently designs and contracts for intelligent retrofit solutions for residential homeowners, working with leading suppliers and installers of heat pumps, solar, insulation, batteries, EV chargers and insulation across the UK. Its proprietary and market-leading software enables homeowners to understand the best retrofit options for them and then to get those works done seamlessly and to the highest standards.
Through the acquisition, Genous will also benefit from Cotswold Energy’s established delivery capability and regional presence across the South of England and beyond, enhancing its ability to self-deliver, especially on larger, more complex projects, while Genous’s subcontracted network will benefit from an increased volume of opportunities.
