Oxfordshire Cricket has appointed Fortitude Communications to lead its public relations and communications as the organisation prepares to launch as a charity in early 2025. The move marks a significant milestone for the future of cricket in Oxfordshire, reinforcing the sport’s ambition to expand access, grow participation and strengthen its role within local communities.
Cricket in Oxfordshire Set for New Era as Charity Status Launches
The transition to charitable status aligns with Oxfordshire Cricket’s new three-year strategy, which aims to make cricket open and accessible for all. The organisation’s vision champions the sport’s power to inspire communities, develop young talent and bring people together through shared passion and opportunity.
To support this new chapter, Oxfordshire Cricket has chosen award-winning Fortitude Communications, an Oxford-based PR and marketing agency with strong expertise in sport and charity communications. Fortitude will deliver a comprehensive communications strategy designed to increase awareness, strengthen perception and boost engagement with players, parents, schools, clubs and partners across the county.
Leadership Praises Strategic Partnership
Nick Pinhol, Managing Director of Oxfordshire Cricket, said:
“This is an exciting new era for Oxfordshire Cricket as we embark on becoming a charity and rolling out our ambitious new strategy. We’re determined to engage, inspire and support more people across the county and use cricket to help people develop and lead fulfilling lives. Fortitude has an excellent track record and were the obvious choice to support us with our launch.”
Greig Box Turnbull, founder of Fortitude Communications, added:
“Oxfordshire Cricket’s move to charitable status and its bold new strategy represents a key milestone for the county and an inspiring new chapter for the sport. We’re proud to be working with such a progressive organisation and look forward to delivering real impact. With our strong track record in sport and charity communications, this partnership is primed for success.”
Strengthening Cricket Pathways for Young People
The announcement builds on an existing partnership between Oxfordshire Cricket and Fortitude. Last year, Fortitude delivered social media masterclasses for young people enrolled on Oxfordshire Cricket’s Future Leaders Academy, helping develop leadership and digital skills for the next generation of cricket talent.
Participation in junior cricket has surged across Oxfordshire, with 8,040 children reached this year through the board’s bursary programmes, community initiatives and schools outreach. This growth underlines the increasing importance of accessible, community-focused cricket programmes across the county.
