Arts University Plymouth Secures Unreal Academic Partner Status For Game Arts & Animation Course

Arts University Plymouth has announced that its BA (Hons) Game Arts & Animation course has been recognised as an Unreal Academic Partner by Epic Games.

The recognition marks a new development for a course that already teaches Unreal Engine as part of its games pathway. Arts University Plymouth’s approved course information shows that students on BA (Hons) Game Arts & Animation develop projects through storytelling, prototyping and problem-solving, with the game arts pathway using Autodesk’s 3D studio max and Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter and Unreal Engine to create environments, blockouts and game-ready assets.

Students on the course begin by building strong visual foundations in drawing, anatomy, character work, posing and animation. They then move into storyboarding, art direction, visual development and worldbuilding before choosing to specialise in either games or animation.

The recognition also gives staff access to Epic-developed teaching resources through Unreal Academy, supporting delivery on a course that combines visual storytelling with digital production.

Martial Bugliolo, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Game Arts & Animation, said: “This recognition reflects the quality and direction of BA (Hons) Game Arts & Animation at Arts University Plymouth. Our students build the visual, technical and problem-solving skills needed for contemporary practice, from concept art and worldbuilding through to game-ready assets and immersive environments. Unreal Engine is one of the tools they work with as part of that process, so this is a meaningful recognition for the course and for the students who choose to study it.”

BA (Hons) Game Arts & Animation also connects students with wider immersive opportunities through Arts University Plymouth’s partnership with Real Ideas. This includes opportunities to develop and screen 360-degree content in the immersive dome at Market Hall, across formats compatible with VR, AR, mixed reality, games and animation.

For prospective students, the recognition is a clear signal of a course shaped by both strong visual fundamentals and the digital tools used across games and animation today.
