A new charity motoring event is putting history and heritage in the driving seat by taking classic car enthusiasts on a unique journey across Britain’s ancient Roman road network, celebrating the country’s major landmarks, spectacular landscapes and independent hospitality businesses.
Taking place from 2–9 October, the Loxley Collection 500 UK Roman Road Classic Vehicle Tour will see participants travel from Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire to Mullion on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula, passing through Lincolnshire, the Cotswolds and Somerset.
The Loxley Collection 500 has been orchestrated by Andrew Long, a Lincoln businessman and owner of the Loxley Collection – a portfolio of premium hotels with historical significance in unique and stunning locations. Andrew, who is a keen historian and classic car enthusiast, has created the tour to celebrate Britain’s history, connecting classic vehicles with Roman roads on a journey through medieval towns and cities.
The scenic tour will follow routes engineered by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago. Beginning at the Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood’s Bay, participants will travel south through the North Yorkshire Moors to the White Hart Hotel in Lincoln’s historic Bailgate, where the route follows the line of Ermine Street beneath the iconic Newport Arch before continuing along the ancient Fosse Way through the Cotswolds and Somerset. The tour culminates at Polurrian Hotel in Mullion, Cornwall.
Andrew Long explained: “Experience-led travel continues to shape the way people explore Britain, and the Loxley Collection 500 is about creating a memorable adventure that brings together classic cars, Britain’s history and some of the country’s most remarkable places. By following ancient Roman roads from Yorkshire to Cornwall, we want to encourage participants to slow down, explore the historic towns, landscapes and landmarks along the route, and discover the independent businesses and communities that give each destination its character.”
The event is open to owners of vehicles built before 1976, with special consideration given to exceptional sports cars and other interesting vehicles that are at least 25 years old. While there is no entry fee, participants are encouraged to raise funds for charities of their choice.
