Yamaha Motor Europe are delighted to confirm Carter Thompson will return for a second season with Team BrCorse in the FIM Sportbike World Championship in 2027, looking to build on an impressive debut season with the R7.
19-year-old Thompson finished third overall in the inaugural Sportbike World Championship season in 2026. After a challenging start to the season, the introduction of the MY26 R7 at Misano marked a clear step forward for Team BrCorse, with Thompson taking his first podium of the season in his first races with the new bike.
The Australian went on to secure two dominant race victories, and four podium finishes across the second half of the year – earning him the bronze medal in the championship standings. Ending the season in this strong position marks a statement of intent heading into 2027 – as both Thompson and the BrCorse squad will be looking to make further progress to fight for the title.
Thompson will be joined in Andrea Brambilla’s Team BrCorse squad by former Moto3 World Championship rider Noah Dettwiler, who is set to return to World Championship-level motorcycle racing for the first time since a near career-ending accident in the 2025 Malaysian Grand Prix.
The 2027 FIM Sportbike World Championship will begin at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve on 19-21 March, just days after ths series’ first official test of the year at the Portuguese circuit on 15th March.
Carter Thompson – Team BrCorse
“I’m really happy to confirm I’ll be back with Yamaha and BRCorse for the 2027 season in the FIM World Sportbike Championship. We’ve built a lot together throughout 2026, and finishing third in the inaugural championship gives us a great foundation to build on. I’m looking forward to continuing that work with Yamaha and the team, pushing forward and fighting for the championship next year. The Yamaha R7 has shown its potential this season, and I believe it has everything it takes to win. I’m excited for the challenge ahead and can’t wait to get back on track in 2027.”
Noah Dettwiler – Team BrCorse
“I am really happy and excited to join Team BrCorse for the 2027 season as I return to full-time racing after a long year of recovery. I’m super-pleased to get this opportunity and start working and growing together, and I cannot wait to try the R7 for the first time and for the season to start.”
Niccolò Canepa, Road Racing Sporting Manager, Yamaha Motor Europe
“We are delighted that Carter will continue together with Team BrCorse in 2027 after their impressive first season with the R7 in the Sportbike World Championship in 2026. Carter was without a doubt one of the strongest riders in the second half of the season, and we are confident he can hit the ground running to launch a full attack on the title for 2027. On top of this, we are also very pleased that Andrea Brambilla and the team have secured the services of Noah Dettwiler for 2027 as he marks his full-time return to racing. On paper, Carter and Noah are an incredibly strong line-up and we look forward to seeing what they can achieve together next year.”
