Bristol Wine Bar KASK Launches ‘The Odyssey’ Tasting Inspired by New Christopher Nolan Film

As Christopher Nolan’s adaptation arrives in cinemas, KASK has created a wine tasting inspired by one of literature’s greatest journeys

As Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated adaptation of The Odyssey arrives in cinemas this month, independent Bristol wine bar KASK is inviting guests to experience Homer’s epic in an entirely different way – through a guided tasting inspired by Odysseus’ legendary voyage across the ancient Mediterranean.

Taking place at both KASK on North Street and KASK 2 on Cheltenham Road, The Odyssey Tasting follows the spirit of Homer’s ten-year journey home after the Trojan War, pairing wines from regions connected with the ancient world alongside the myths, history and cultures that made the story one of the most enduring works of literature ever written.

The experience will take place on Wednesday 15th July at 7.30pm at KASK, North Street, and Wednesday 22nd July at 7.30pm at KASK 2 on Cheltenham Road. Tickets can be booked at: https://www.kaskwine.co.uk/product-category/events/

Beginning near ancient Troy before travelling through Thrace, Sicily, southern Italy, Corsica and back to Greece, each wine represents a different chapter of the journey. Along the way, guests will encounter legendary monsters, mythical kingdoms and real places whose winemaking traditions stretch back thousands of years. The tasting concludes with wines made using clay amphorae – one of the oldest winemaking techniques still practised today.

Rather than attempting to recreate an impossible route, KASK has embraced the fact that The Odyssey blends history, geography and mythology. While Troy and Ithaca are real places, many of Odysseus’ adventures unfold in locations that have fascinated historians and classicists for centuries, making the exact journey impossible to map with certainty. That freedom has allowed KASK to create an evening inspired by the story’s spirit rather than its disputed geography.

“We’ve always believed the best wine tastings tell stories,” says Charlie Taylor, co-owner of KASK. “The Odyssey is one of the greatest stories ever written and many of the places associated with it are still producing incredible wines today. Once we started exploring the route, we realised to map it in wine would make for a day long Tasting, so rather than tick off every possible location, we’ve built an evening that captures highlights ofthe adventure instead. It’s part mythology, part history and part wine tasting.”

Designed to appeal to everyone from lovers of Greek mythology and history to filmgoers looking to celebrate Nolan’s latest release in a unique way, the tasting requires no prior knowledge of wine or Homer. Guests simply need a sense of curiosity and a willingness to travel across three millennia of Mediterranean history, one glass at a time.

Selected wines from the tasting will also be available by the glass at both KASK venues throughout the month.
